History of Fulbe Kingdom
The Fulbe (Fulani) as it is normally called has been part of the Ghanaian Community, especially in the Muslim-dominated areas as the other tribes the Hausa, Moshie, Yoruba, and Frafra.
Areas named Cow Lane, Ashaiman, Accra, Kaase, Sawaba, Alabar etc are areas where the Fulbe’s have stayed and operated since time immemorial and therefore represent about 10% of the population in the Muslims / Zongo-dominated area.
Fulbe can be seen in most of the villages married to Ghanaian women, and their women married to Ghanaian men procreating and contributing to the nation’s population.
The Fulbe’s can classified into three (3).
Citizens
These are Fulanis whose grandparents were in Ghana, before attaining independence. They were part of gold coast, and the transition to independence. These Fulanis can trace their ancestral lineage to the ancient Ghana.
Sedentary
These category of Fulanis live and work in Ghana. Like any other African citizen, they have lived in Ghana for years, and continue to live in accordance with the laws.
Seasonal
These are Fulbe cattle headers who migrate to Ghana every year in search of pastures with their live stocks.
Chieftaincy/Kingdom in the Ashanti Region
In 1905, early 20th century, Amadu Amir and his family moved from the ancient Mali Kingdom to ancient Ghana for business. They travelled on their camels, and with their cattle to trade in the Kingdom where the young Ahmed had earlier learnt is filled with Business activities and opportunity for barter trade from shepherds in Mali. In the year 1922, Amadu Amir who had been taking care of the Fulbe (Fulani) in the Asante Kingdom was enskinned as the leader (King) of the Fulbe community this was 35 years before the attainment of independence and modern-day Ghana.
The Fulbe community deemed him fit, due to his social acumen. The community has historically been known for livestock business specifically with cattle across the Kingdom with traders from the west African countries such as Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Cameroon, and Upper Volter modern day Burkina Faso. Up to date, the Ashanti Region has a vibrant Fulbe community across the region who contributing to socio-development of the Kingdom.
Within 102 years of the existence of the Fulbe Kingdom in the Asante Region (which is a continuation of the Fulbe Kingdom in Mali) , it has had 3 leaders, who have all lived long and have brought development to its tribesmen, through education and active participation in socio-economic activities. The Leading Clan is the Koita Clan of which all the leaders must hail from.
